In 2006 the informatics research institute at the University of Salford won an award from the ESF, to determine the level of eDiscrimination present in online job application materials. The research is confined to the North West of England which has been identified as an area with a disproportionate number of disabled people outside the work force. The research team led by Dr David Kreps had argued that as Government had moved more services onto the web, because of a lack of accessibility awareness, many public sector websites were not available for disabled computer users due to inaccessible web content design. The research project drew on earlier National and European studies which highlighted how eDiscrimination negatively affected disabled people.
